chi-lin...
foo dog

A chi-lin is an ancient Chinese mythological creature whose
appearance foretold an auspicious event. If you had lived in the Ming Dynasty, an appropriate gift for a newborn son mightbe a an embroidery of a young boy riding a chi-lin, showing that the boy was destined for greatness.

An auspicious name is a good beginning, now step into the shop and gallery, and let a touch of Oriental simplicity and serenity add a sense of grace to your life.

chi-lin is a blend of old and new—

Our extensive collection of antique, vernacular furniture and household pieces reflects a time when craftsmanship was understood, and attention to detail expected.

The artwork is contemporary and everywhere—
—bright and fun in Chinese Peasant and Tibetan Children’s artwork
—haunting in the richness of "Northern Wilderness" woodblock prints
—understated and soothing in the sumi and calligraphy by Aya Itagaki
—elegant in the rice paper collages by Sachiko Furui
…and always the paintings, from all over the Orient.

With an eye to "Satori", our tea garden, we have developed a large line of Asia Tableware, an irresistible selection of fine gifts. Let the peace and beauty our seasonal Japanese tea garden, be the setting for a cup of tea and sweets with a friend, or a quiet private party.
